Workplace exposure to asbestos fibres continues to be one of the most prolific contributors to occupational lung disease deaths in the UK, exceeding 5,000 deaths annually. Despite the use of asbestos products being banned in 1999 in the UK, the vast majority of products installed during the 20th Century are still in place, putting persons of various trades and ages at risk of accidental exposure.

This course is intended to give workers and supervisors the information they need to avoid work that may disturb asbestos during any normal work which could disturb the fabric of a building or item that might contain asbestos. Delivery can take place in the classroom or online and includes a brief multiple choice assessment to solidify understanding of the topic.

This course does not prepare persons to carry out work with asbestos containing materials (ACMs), further training is required and Tamar Safety can recommend competent training providers to support this.

This short course is aimed at workers that are required to complete internal fire extinguisher checks and those who might potentially discharge an extinguisher in response to tackling a fire. This course is suited to Managers and Supervisors that can be called upon to write and deliver internal toolbox talks (TBT) to their colleagues and contractors.  During the course delegates will explore the techniques and information sources available to support them in writing their own TBT, before working on practical delivery methods in a group workshop setting. Delegates will receive a TBT template, but are encouraged to bring existing in-house documents to use in the session if available.

This course can be used as an introduction to, or refresher on, the safe working practices on and in the presence of woodworking machinery in-line with the HSE's Approved Code of Practice L114 Safe use of woodworking machinery.
